Hand Felted Table Runner

Personalize your home with an accent table runner of your own creation using a variety of dyed wool fibers, warm, soapy water and gentle friction with no sewing necessary!  Combine ancient feltmaking techniques with modern styles to create surface designs, textures, fringes, and interesting edges and shapes. The results can be sophisticated, earthy, or fun and bold!  Students with a specific project in mind should bring measurements of the table/furniture that the piece is being designed for.  Note: Wall hangings are also a possibility in this workshop. Hand Felted Wool Jewelry

Transform colorful wool fibers into many types of beads, coils, flowers, and embellishments using warm, soapy water and gentle rubbing.  Techniques will be explored to create numerous surface designs, textures and interesting shapes. Each student will create an assortment of jewelry of their own design that will be distinctly unique to their own sense of style and expression!  Also see weekend class below. Student Work

 

Distinctive Wool Felt Scarf

Transform fine wool fibers into a felt scarf that can be lightweight and elegant or thick and cozy warm!  Use colorful fibers, warm soapy water and gentle friction with no sewing necessary.  During the felting process, skills will be introduced to create surface designs, textures, fringes, and interesting edges.  Create a piece of wearable art that is stunning to wear and distinctly unique! Sheer Lightweight Felt Scarf - Laminate/Nuno Technique

Combine fine wool fibers and lightweight fabric to create an amazing scarf that can be elegant, earthy or funky! Using wool fibers and sheer cloth such as silk and cotton gauze, create laminated felt by allowing the wool fibers to migrate through cloth while becoming felt. During the felting process, skills will be introduced to create surface designs, fringes, and interesting edges.  Create a piece of wearable art that is stunning to wear and distinctly unique to your own sense of style and expression!

Sculptural Felt Vessel

Add a personal signature to your home’s interior with a hand felted vessel.  Create a 3-D seamless piece of artwork using the ancient art of feltmaking and the modern technique called “felting on a ball”.  Skills will be introduced to create surface designs, sculptural elements and appendages, while manipulating the felt into seamless three-dimensional forms. With over 50 colors of wool and many design possibilities, create an item that will be distinctly unique to your dwellings personality. Student Work

 

Hand Felted Wool Mittens

Using ancient feltmaking techniques, create a custom fitted pair of seamless mittens. Using only warm soapy water, colorful wool fibers and gentle rubbing students will create a pair of mittens of their own design and creative expression without the use of any sewing.  During the felting process, skills will be introduced to create surface designs, sculptural elements and appendages, as well as manipulate the felt mittens into a perfect fit. The Fabulous Felt Hat

Apply modern twists to the ancient craft of feltmaking using the “felting on a ball” technique.  Design and create a cozy hat that is unlike anything you will find in the store using over 50 colors of soft wool fibers, warm, soapy water and an inflatable ball. Learn how to create surface designs, sculptural elements and appendages, while manipulating the felt into a seamless three-dimensional hat.   Create something that is fun to wear and distinctly unique to your own personality! Stylish Felted Handbags

Make a fashion statement with a handfelted bag reflecting your own sense of style and expression.  Transform colorful wool fibers into a seamless handbag using warm, soapy water and gentle rubbing without the need for any sewing. During the felting process, skills will be introduced to create surface designs, sculptural elements, appendages and handles. Student Work

 

Felted Flowers

Transform colorful wool fibers into many types of flowers using warm, soapy water and gentle rubbing.  Techniques will be explored to create numerous types of petals, vines, stamens and centers as well as skills to attach the individual elements using felting techniques and the incorporation of wire inside vines, etc. Each student will create an assortment of flowers of their own design that can be fantasy creations or literal interpretations of flowers found in nature.  These pieces of art can be used as decorative pins on clothing, jewelry pendants, desk art, or fill vases with them! Fashionable Felt Handbag

Show off your designer handbag designed and created by you!  With warm, soapy water and colorful wool fibers use traditional feltmaking skills along with the “felting on a ball” technique to make a unique and eye catching bag for everyday use or special occasions.  Create surface designs, sculptural elements and appendages that reflect your sense of style. Exploration of Feltmaking - Weeklong

This class will explore traditional and contemporary feltmaking techniques to transform colorful wool fibers into felt using warm, soapy water and gentle rubbing. Utilizing a broad range of feltmaking techniques, students will create handmade felt wearables such as scarves, hats, jewelry and handbags as well as home décor items such as wall hangings, table runners, and vessels. These handmade felts will range from stiff and freestanding to lightweight and flowing.  Student Work

 

Note:  This class can be customized to your students needs. Some other class possibilities that could be “swapped” into the class above are:

Creative Feltmaking – Weekend (2 -3 day)

This class can be customized using any combination of the one-day courses that I teach.  Please contact me to discuss your program’s needs and we will create the ideal class for your students.

 

Fabulous Handmade Felt Brim Hats - Weekend

Drawing from your own personal style, create a sophisticated, funky or outrageous hat.  Explore the ancient tradition of feltmaking using warm, soapy water, colorful wool fibers and gentle rubbing to create the felt “hood”.  Then manipulate this soft felt form into a seamless three-dimensional, sculpted felt hat using “fulling” and steam blocking techniques.  Skills will be introduced throughout the class time to create surface designs, textures, sculptural elements and appendages.  Instructor's Work

 

Hand Felted Wool Jewelry - Weekend

Transform colorful wool fibers into many types of beads, coils, and embellishments using warm, soapy water and gentle rubbing. During the bead creation, skills (including needlefelting) will be introduced to create numerous surface designs, textures and interesting shapes. These skills will be expanded as students explore the addition of appendages and techniques to interconnect a variety of felt elements.  Felting over wire armatures will also be introduced. Each student will create an assortment of jewelry that will be distinctly unique to their own sense of style and expression!  Student Work

 

Advanced Feltmaking

This class can be customized by expanding and exploring any technique described above with more depth and detail.  Advanced feltmaking can be a one day course and up to a week long if desired.  Please contact me to discuss your program’s needs and we will create the ideal class for your students.

 

Private Instruction

I recommend private instruction to any student wanting to climb the learning curve at an accelerated rate or that has specific skills that they want to improve upon.  I teach privately in my studio for one, two or three students at a time.  Please contact me for more details.
