Prefelt

Last fall I imported prefelt fabric in 20 colors to evaluate as a possible addition to my product lines.  About that time I relocated from the east coast to the west and it is only now that I am unpacking this beautiful wool fabric.  It has so much felting potential!  At this time I have decide not to carry this product so I am offering it here on the clearance page until I run out.  I simply do not have the studio space or time needed to cut, package and market this product.  I did a quick test for shrinkage and it worked out to about 25%.

Please note:  this is prefelt and it requires further felting for structural integrity.

Assortment Pack

Packaged for felt jewelry artists, felt imagery, or anyone else that needs a little bit in a lot of colors!

I have made 14 of these packages and I can create more as needed but later down the road the color selection may be limited as the colors start to sell out.

You can get an idea of the thickness from the "ruler stack" image and also and idea of the softness.  This fabric is only lightly needle felted which leaves lots of available fibers for the addition of other fibers/materials as well as sculptural  manipulation (meaning the fabric can be felted onto itself).

The assortment pack contains 11" x  11" squares of all 20 colors.  However, there is some variability to these measurements and an occasional smaller square may be in the package so I have priced them by weight.  The stacks are 5.3 - 5.9 ounces and $6.78 per ounce so packages range from $35.93 - $40.00.

Scarf Size

Scarf length is 11 inches wide and 6 feet to 7.5 feet long.  There is some variability in these measurements so I have priced each by weight to ensure that the pricing is fair. The scarves are generally 2.0 - 2.5 ounces and $6.78 per ounce so scarves range from $15 - $17.00.

This is a good length and shape of fabric to work from for longer items such as scarves and table runners.

Select from the colors shown here.

Top L - R:  yellow, plum, sage, denim, lavender, salmon, beige, brown, pink, brick.

Bottom L - R:  lime, lemon, orange, fuschia, aqua*, red, olive, black, white, grey.

*aqua is a little more blue-green than it looks in the image.

Pellsau Locks

These are 100% Pellsau locks that have been washed and dyed.  The mill dyes these locks prior to carding them into batts so no attention has been paid to keeping them neat and tidy.  I recommend that you card them before use if you want to create even surfaces.  They make incredibly sturdy, well compressed felt that is great for projects that are subject to wear such as handbags and slippers as well as sculptural items.

I carry the 50/50 Pellsau/C1 batts on a regular basis in 20 colors but I haven't decided if I will carry these locks as part of my product line so I have them listed here for now.  Let me know how you like them.

Hint - When adding surface embellishments to or doing a lot of shaped fulling use room temp water instead of hot water so the fibers do not felt too quickly.  The small vessel shown here was created in a 2-D flat shape with a resist inside and was then fulled and shaped into the 3-D vessel seen here.  If only you could reach through the computer and feel the firmness of this felt!

Blue Faced Leicester (BFL) Locks

I purchased 20 pounds of BFL lamb locks for some felt imagery I plan to do.  I dyed them in many colors but only need a little of each color for my projects.  So I am offering the rest of the locks here.

I like the fine crimp of the locks and the fact that they are short (approx 2" long) and allow me to create smaller scale designs.  Flick card one end of the lock to create a wonderful affect!  Great for needle felted projects as well.

As I photographed these locks I noticed very fine vegetable matter left behind on the photo paper background but it's not really noticeable otherwise.

Hat Blocks

Once upon a time in another galaxy I dreamed of becoming a production felt hat maker and I purchased a large number of hat blocks.  While I do make some hats I have come to the realization that I will not become a full time hat maker and I do not need this many hat blocks!  These are very nice blocks made to order by Fred Raab in New Jersey.  The crowns and brims are interchangeable within each size and pegs are included to secure the crown to the brim.  You can also use the crown without the brim so I am selling crowns and brims separately.   Some of these blocks have never been used and at most some have been used 2 or 3 times.  I tried to photograph the images below depicting the typical wear and tear you might find on a block you purchase.  The indented block shows some chipping along the edge of one piece, the pixie block shows how the laminated pieces may be slightly separated (a result of humidity changes), the pillbox block has pinholes from use, and the profile crown block has knots in the wood.  These are all minor imperfections and will not affect the use of the block.

If you want to estimate the shipping costs I have included the weight for the largest size of each block.  Add roughly another pound for the box and go to USPS.com and use their shipping rate calculator.  My zipcode is 99362.  If you were exceed 35 pounds UPS.com may give a better rate.

I create my hats two dimensional (flat) with a resist to keep the sides from felting together and once fulled I steam and block them on the blocks (covered in saran wrap to protect them from moisture). If you plan to felt directly on these blocks and get them really wet I would strongly recommend that you seal them with a very good water proofing product.

Here is what you get with each crown block.

There is a wood plate that increase the depth of the crown and another one that creates a guide for a string tie (see it installed on the indented crown below).  There are also two pegs used to connect the pieces shown here or they can be used to secure the crown block to a brim block.  The large hole in the center is used to set the block on a pipe stand so you can turn the block while working the hat.  Each block has the block makers name stamped into it, my initials "LF" (you can say it stands for lovely feltmaker) and the size information.

There are wood pieces that act as feet screwed onto the bottom.  Each block has the block makers name stamped in it, my initials "LF" and the size information.

Indented -  Price reduced further!

I had no buyers on these really cool hat blocks so I assume the price was too steep.  So I lowered them a little more to $80 each.  I can keep them but I would really like to see them go to someone that will use them.  The top of the block is slightly larger than the bottom and that is why it is constructed with five sections - for ease of removal.  I paid $130 each for them.

Adjustable Size Hat Block

This adjustable hat block was designed by Leslie Samson and I purchased it about six years ago.  I used it once and then had dome hat blocks built by Fred Raab and forgot all about this one until I was opening up boxes a few days ago.

You can do numerous hat sizes by using a combination of the inserts shown here.  It's all hat sizes in one block!

I do not have shopping carts or a secure site to accept credit cards online at this time.

You may email your order to spinsterstreadle@hotmail.com with your complete shipping address and the credit card number with expiration date.  For security purposes it is suggested that you send the credit card number in several emails.  Please include a phone number as well.

You may also call me at 509 520-5460 with your order and I can take your credit card information at that time.  I don't have any staff besides myself and sometimes life interferes with business.  So if I don't answer the phone I assure you that I will get back to you quickly, usually within the hour.

If I am available on the weekend I will take your order and ship it.  But I do reserve the right to take the weekend off and return your calls and/or handle your order on Monday.  I do post any anticipated holidays and vacations on the home page of this website when they occur.

Do not hesitate to contact me with any questions you may have regarding the products I sell.  I will do my best to help.  I am primarily a traditional wet felt artist but I also do some needle felting and handspinning.

Shipping Information

I have found that the US Post Office (USPS) usually gives me the best rates and I charge you exactly what the box costs to ship plus delivery confirmation ($0.65 - $0.75).  For this reason I can usually only give you an estimate of shipping costs at the time of your order.  The invoice enclosed with your shipment will include the total charged to your card.  I will ship your order the same day if possible or by the next day at the latest.

I live in Washington State and ship parcel (ground) so you can expect your order to take about 3 days to arrive if you are in the surrounding states, about 5-6 days to the midwest and southern states such as Texas, Arizona and southern California.  Transit time to the mid-Atlantic states is about 6-7 days and expect 7-9 days if you live in the northeast.

I can also ship your package priority mail for a transit time of 2-3 days for about $5 - $10 additional dollars.  However, if your package is over 12 x 12 x 12 inches and you live outside the pacific northwest (and a few other surrounding states) there will be a balloon charge that can be as much as $20 additional dollars.  Basically, if your order is going to need to take up more than one cubic foot of space on an airplane to get to you in 2-3 days it's going to cost you a lot!  Also keep in mind that, while they do usually get the package to it's destination on time, the US Post Office does not guarantee the 2 -3 day time frame with priority shipments.

So, if you have a large order to place, need it by a specific time, and want to ship it economically (parcel) please be sure to give me enough time to package the order and two weeks for it to get to you!
